Advanced Macroeconomic Policy (Master's only)
This module considers the major policy issues in macroeconomics and a number of contemporary topical issues from the perspective of developing countries. It combines theoretical and empirical considerations with policy approaches. The course outline divides into three sub-sections starting with the characteristics of developing countries and the nature of economic policy. This is followed by a number of major policy issues. In each case we analyse the issues from a theoretical and empirical perspective and investigate how these issues may be addressed by combinations of macroeconomic policies (mainly monetary, fiscal and trade policies). Occasionally we explore the interface between macro- and microeconomic policies. The final subsection deals with four topical contemporary issues.
Module presenters: Estian Calitz, Gideon du Rand, Krige Siebrits and Dawie van Lill
