Young economists predict well...
The Departement of Economics runs the Young Economist of the Year competition with sponsorship from Die Burger for first year economics students to test their skills by accurately predicting a number of key variables – the economic growth rate, inflation as well as interest rate changes and exchange rates.
2010’s winning team is Ben Lazarus en Ben Smit which each took home R3 500. Two other teams, of three and two members respectively, won the rest of the R15 000 prize money and the two students in fourth position each recieved a complete set of second year economics text books.
