Samuel Bowles to visit Stellenbosh

SAMUEL BOWLES, Professor of Economics at the University of Siena and Head of the Behavioral Sciences Program at the Santa Fe Institute, will visit the Department of Economics on 2-3 February. Professor Bowles is a leading figure in the study of cultural evolution. His recent work in this area (which includes mathematical models, agent-based computer simulations and behavioural experiments) appeared in Nature and Science last year. Professor Bowles has also co-chaired the MacArthur Network on the Effects of Inequality on Economic Performance since 1996, where his contributions include theoretical and empricial studies on the role of incomplete contracts in labour and credit markets.
