Stellenbosch University will play host to the 2012 World Economic History Congress. The decision was made at the International Economic History Association meeting on 8 November in Kyoto, Japan. Grietjie Verhoef, the chairperson of the Economic History Society of Southern Africa, made the final presentation to the directors in the early hours of Friday morning (GMT time). Sydney and Glasgow were the other two shortlisted cities. In a close election which followed the three presentations, Stellenbosch was selected to host the 2012 congress. The 2009 congress will be held in Utrecht.
