The fields of research in any department are dictated by the availability of staff members and their respective fields of expertise. The Department of Economics at Stellenbosch has a longstanding tradition of expertise in the following broadly-defined fields: macroeconomics, econometrics, economic development and growth,  international trade and finance, monetary economics and public finance.
